Lock the Doors

So I'm sat here thinking what can I put on the blog? What mood am I in? Something funny maybe, something serious, or maybe something profound, or maybe just plain simple, and then it came to me, this thought that is...

You know in Lord of the Rings when the King - Anagram or whatever his name is, as well as the one with the girly blond hair and the dwarf who fancies him in a kind of Brokeback Mount Doom way are stood at the door to the way of the dead, well it struck me that the way of death was in fact life for many (cheesy preachers can use that in a Stilton flavoured sermon), but thats not what filled my thoughts.

Imagine that Anagram, knowing that this was the way to life, bottled it and didn't want anyone else to go through and find life because he was pooping himself. Imagine how sick that would be if you knew the way to life but sent people the other way out of your own fears and self preservation. Imagine you sent them via Mordor and Keighley on a wild goose chase that led them to a lifetime of wandering only to end up in that boggy marsh area (Kent). How sick and sad would that be, how selfish and ungraceful an action...and yet some do, I know because I see it so very often...

Matthew 23 (The Message)

11-12"Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you'll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you're content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty."I've had it with you! You're hopeless, you religion scholars, you Pharisees! Frauds! Your lives are roadblocks to God's kingdom. You refuse to enter, and won't let anyone else in either.

Matthew 23 (The ESV)

12Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.

You know the more I look the more I see that Christianity is a religion where people are free only as much as there is slack in the chains that bind them.

Why would King Anagram bottle it?

If he knew for certain that was the way what would he have to fear?

If the pharisees knew the way of the Kingdom (as they did because Jesus fulfilled all the messianic signs) why did they fear following him?

Is fear healthy or should we just enjoy the ride?

Based on the scripture you posted was it the following of Christ they were afraid of or was it that step before, breaking free and leaving the past behind that would have scared them - are the 2 the same thing?

Hi Gill, how's it going?

Been thinking about your question on why Anagram would bottle out. How about because he didn't know what the outcome was going to be? We know there's a lot more chapters of the book and he's the hero so he's going to survive, but he didn't know that. He might have been about to lead his entire party to a horrible death, and fail in his mission to save all of Middle Earth from Saucepan.

Fear is not healthy, but there are other emotions which we can mistake for fear which are healthy - eg stress, which can be positive as well as negative. Adrenalin is good for us, as long as we deal with the adrenalin causing situation correctly, fear is paralysing
