Purpose Driven Church

What is the purpose of the church? It has to be mission, and that is why a church needs to be missional. Recently a professor at a local college graduation service said 'he had a heart for mission', whilst commendable, it can possibly give the hearers the idea that mission is a separate function or ministry of certain parts of the church.

Think of mission and you think Africa, China, OMF etc etc. A better staement would have been 'my heart is mission', it is the very purpose of our fellowship with Christ, to be missional.
Mission then is not for missionaries as we imagine it to be it, mission is for you, and this is the purpose driven church, a missional church.

Jean Luc Krieg puts it best when he says...

The mission of the church, then, has all the dimensions and scope of Jesus’ own ministry and may never be reduced to church planting and the saving of souls. It consists in proclaiming and teaching, but also in healing and liberating, in compassion for the poor and the downtrodden. The mission of the church, as the mission of Jesus, involves being sent into the world – to love, to serve, to preach, to teach, to heal, to save, to free.
